Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Meyers (Collins), age 95, of St. John, IN and longtime resident of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2016 with her family at her side at her home in St. John. Loving mother of 7 children: Les (Jan) of Phoenix, AZ; Dennis (Michelle) of St. John, IN; Larry (Jill) of St. John, IN; Cathy (Hj) Freels of Hammond, IN; Beverly Messer of Austin, TX; Rich (Patty) of Munster, IN; Carol (Terry) Moore of Centennial, CO; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great - great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Les Meyers and her granddaughter, Tatiana Bojczuk. Dorothy was an avid bowler and won 29 championships in a 34 year period. She was inducted into the Double "I" WBA Hall of Fame on August 12, 1989. Dorothy attended Hammond Tech and graduated in 1940. She worked at Pullman Standard during World War II and later was co-owner of Hammond Insurance Agency with her husband Les. She was a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church and a member of Woodmar Country Club. Dorothy spent the winter months in Bradenton, FL where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave., Munster, Indiana with Pastor Quincy Worthington officiating. All family and friends are welcome. Visitation with the family will be 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
