Ray Edwin Floyd Jr “Duke” was born 4-23-1935, he attended Posey elementary school and graduated from Mount Vernon High school in 1954 where he enjoyed playing HS Football and attended every reunion since graduation.
He Joined the United States Army’s 86th infantry in 1955 where he received medals for marksmanship and conduct.
Ray was divorced 2x before meeting the love of his life, Helen Wilson whom he married in 1972 , they were married 32 years until her death in 2004. He was the stepfather to her daughters Tracy & Terry.
He became a certified welder in 1974, and had a 26 year career (1971-1997) and pension earned from LTV United steelworks as a journeyman welder. After that he held many part-time jobs after retirement, for “pocket change “ he said.
Ray lived in Hammond Indiana before he Moved to Dyer in 1979 with the purchase of a newly constructed home, where he has resided for over 40 years. He was known as a wonderful neighbor, friendly but quiet man that kept to himself; most times.
Ray was a very proud and active Mason since 1987. He enjoyed reading Westerns, telling great long stories, working on cars, being a pet owner to many cats and dogs over the years and watching football on his television. Oatmeal, eggs and bacon with coffee was his most favorite breakfast. He had a beautiful smile and loved to wink at the ladies!
He is survived by his three siblings: Carol Sue, Helen June & Tommy.
He will be missed by many friends especially his “Guard“ and the “Boss lady“
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Memory Lane Cemetery, Route 30, in Crown Point, IN
