Obituary for Julius Rosko

Julius Steven Rosko, 90, Phoenix, AZ, was born December 20, 1926 in East Chicago, IN. He passed away December 2 in Carlsbad, CA. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene; his children Kathy Rosko, Debbie (Robert) Marinconz, Julie (Charles) Benner, Becky (Kevin) Simac, and Scot (Emily) Rosko. He was a devoted Grandpa to his 15 loving grandchildren, Kimberly, Kyle, and Nick Marinconz; Megan, Courtney, Drake, and Mitchell Benner; Steven, Julian, Rachel, and Owen Simac; Samuel, Jacob, Sara, and Catherine Rosko.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Illes and Anna Rocska, and his brothers John, Frank, and Edward.
Julius was called to serve in the Army during the WWII reconstruction efforts in Germany where he tried out and made a baseball team that traveled extensively throughout Europe entertaining fellow troops. He worked at Inland Steel where he retired after 44 years of service. As a member of Our Lady of Grace, Holy Name Society, and K of C, he volunteered much of his time and talent. On Fridays, the church bowling league earned him many trophies. Saturday church dances allowed him to show off his smooth footwork as an exceptional jitter bug partner. Early Sunday tee times, with his church buddies, were seldom missed. He was a member of the ‘hole-in-one’ club three times. Once at Wicker Park and twice at the Pointe at South Mountain where he worked part-time for 25 years as a ranger and starter on the golf course. He was an avid fisherman from the Great Lakes to Seseganaga Lake, ON, Canada – always searching for that elusive walleye. He had a passion for finishing daily crossword and sudoku puzzles in record time. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday in Arizona with his loving family and many close friends. Julius truly lived life. May he keep hitting home runs, sinking hole-in-ones, hooking those walleye, and jitter bugging his heart out in Heaven.
A funeral service will begin with prayers at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Avenue, Highland, IN, at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 16 followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3025 Highway Avenue, Highland, IN. Burial will follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation will be Friday, December 15 at the funeral home from 2-7 pm.
