He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol (nee Wimmer) Smolar; brothers and sisters: John (Carolyne) Smolar, Jeanne (Victor) Peterson, Lisa K. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks, and a proud supporter of Notre Dame, he found joy in every game, every season, and every moment spent cheering on his teams. His passion for sports was matched only by his love for people. He was always ready with a joke or a smile. Whether sharing stories or offering quiet support during difficult times, he made those around him feel seen, heard, and valued.

Above all, he was a devoted and loving spouse. His partnership was built on deep respect, unwavering commitment and genuine affection, a bond that served as a beautiful example of love and loyalty.

Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the laughter he inspired, the kindness he showed, and the memories we hold dear. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
