Gerald Brumm, born on May 21, 1943, suddenly passed on May 11, 2023 while doing what he loved- planting flowers in his garden. He was lovingly known by many names throughout his full life: Jerry, JB, Jer, Brummer, Dad, and Papa.
Jerry attended Hammond High, the Kentucky Military Institute, and Bloom Community College. He highly valued education and encouraged all of his children and grandchildren to do the same.
Jerry’s life was made complete after meeting his soulmate, Nancy Watkins, while working at Phillip’s Flowers. The two enjoyed 55 years of adventure, laughs, and love.
Second only to the beautiful family he and his wife created, Jerry was incredibly proud of Brumm’s Bloomin’ Barn. The Brumms built their family business from the ground up in 1970 and opened their doors just 6 months before Jerry and Nancy tied the knot.
Outside of work, Jerry could always be found cheering on the Cubs and sporting their logo on various hats and jackets. He and Nancy enjoyed countless vacations and adventures together, visiting nearly every U.S. state (except for Oregon) and numerous countries overseas.
Jerry is survived by his wife Nancy Brumm. His memory will be carried on by his children: Holly (Eric) Furdo; Julie (John) Hamater; and Adam (Kristen) Brumm. He also lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, Avery and Addison Robinson-Furdo; Carter Hamater; and Abby and Nash Brumm. Jerry’s three brothers also carry on his legacy: Dale (Cindy) Brumm; Dean (Lori) Brumm; and Glenn (Gina) Brumm as well as his sister in law: Kathy (Conrad) Miller. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry is preceded in death by his caring parents Dwain and Gertrude Brumm.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, May 19, 2023 beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Schererville, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
