Joan (Hilbrich) Moore, age 93, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was born on June 20, 1930, to Lawrence and Genevieve Hilbrich and was a lifelong resident of Griffith and Highland. Joan and her husband, Dick, were married on November 14, 1953. Dick preceded her in death in 2012.
She is survived by their five children: Carol (Mark) Kelly of St. John; Karen (Don) Moffett of Crown Point; Janet (Jeff) Noel of Schererville; Bryan (Debbie) Moore of Coldwater, Michigan; and Roger (Mary Ellen) Moore of Canton, Michigan. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Erika Kelly Mates (Joseph), Evan, Olivia, and Alexis Kelly; Danny Moffett (Heidi) and Melanie Phillips (Tyler); Kenny Noel (fiancé Karen Brann) and Genna Shinkan (Michael); Trevor Moore (fiancé Falyn Grunwell) and Tracy Moore; Brigitte and Curtis Moore; as well as five great-grandchildren: Makayla Fritz, Derrick Moffett, Graham Phillips, and Finn and Miles Mates.
Joan is also survived by her brother, Jack Hilbrich (Judie); her sister, Mary Ann Gorsich (Matt), and her sister-in-law, Barbara Hilbrich Burkus.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dick Hilbrich, and her twin sister, Jean Pettit.
Joan worked as a secretary prior to her marriage to Dick. She then raised their five children. She was known for being a meticulous housekeeper. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, bowling, and took up golf later in life.
Joan loved her Cubs, often citing statistics and giving cute nicknames to her favorite players. She had the honor of attending the pennant-clinching game the year they won the 2016 World Series. This was a true highlight of her life. Joan and Dick spent many, many summers taking their children to Wrigley to see her Cubbies. They were also avid Purdue fans.
Joan and Dick traveled extensively around the world, visiting more than 23 countries and all 50 states. They also enjoyed 20 years at their lake cottage with family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave. in St. John. The funeral service will take place Tuesday, September 19, at St. Mary's Church in Griffith, 525 N Broad St, with visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Crown Point.
