Joe Lee Byers

Joe L. Byers, age 88, passed away on May 21, 2026.  Joe was born on March 10, 1938, in Attica, Indiana to Arnet and Lenora Byers.  Joe graduated from Morton High School in Hammond and joined the US Army where he was a reservist.  Joe began his working career in the heating and cooling industry where he provided residential and commercial HVAC services.  Joe learned about the HVAC business from his father when he began helping him on service calls starting at age 12.

On September 30, 1978, Joe married Juanita Werth and they have been happily married for over 47 years.  They built their home and their life in Cedar Lake, IN where they enjoyed their 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  Joe and Nita have been blessed with many wonderful neighbors who treat them just like family. 

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Arnet and Lenora Byers, and his brother Arnet (Carla) Byers.  Joe is survived by his wife, Juanita, his children, Jimmy (Vicki) Byers of Arkansas, Terri Clark (Dave) of Demotte, IN, and Wendi Byers of Hanna, IN and his step-children Wade (Kathleen) Werth of St. John, IN, Kurt (Lori) Werth of Virginia Beach, and Kevin (Kathleen) Werth of Wapakoneta, Ohio.  Joe is also survived by his sister Nancy (Ray) Maza of Arkansas, his brother Bill (Sara) Byers of Merrillville, IN, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave, in St. John, on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 6:00 pm until the time of eulogy at 8:00 pm.
