Letitia Benkovich Obituary

Letitia T. Benkovich (nee Seberger) 81 of Griffith and Hobart, IN passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, July 5, 2024.  She is survived by her brother, Lewis Seberger; son-in-law, Richard Howard, grandchildren, Thomas, Jeffrey, Brian, Elizabeth, & Katelyn Howard, and her late son’s daughter; nephew, Kevin Seberger; and her cousins, Barb (Rick) Shipner, Cynthia (Joseph) Sindall, Patricia (late Mark) McCullough, and Lorraine (Sam) Bibler.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Mark A. Benkovich, Jr., her brother Lawrence (late Nancy) Seberger, and her children whom she adored, Kris E. Benkovich and Katrina E. Howard.

Letitia was born in Chicago, Illinois to Edward S. and Kathryn (Vlasic) Seberger on September 28, 1942.  She grew up in Highland, Indiana where she graduated from Highland High School, class of 1960.  She married her husband, Mark, on Sept. 2, 1967 and moved to Griffith, where she worked as a home-keeper, raising her family.  After both her children were married, she began her favorite job of all, being a loving grandmother.  She loved her kids and grandkids so much that when called upon, she gladly put aside everything she was doing to help raise her grandkids.  When her daughter was diagnosed with cancer, she even moved in with her daughter and son-in-law to help them with their five children.  This is where she remained until Memorial Day, when she became too sick herself to remain at home.  Letitia was also very proud of her Croatian heritage and her Catholic faith.  She was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #154, and of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Highland, IN.

Funeral services will begin with prayers at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Ave in Highland on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 10 am with a funeral mass to follow at Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 4-7 pm, with a prayer service at 6:30 pm.

Letitia will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center, 2645 Ridge Rd., Highland, IN 46322.
