Mary “Nani” Staroscsak, age 88, of Highland, passed away peacefully, November 3, 2023. She is survived by her children: Ron (Tammy) Staroscsak, Patti (Rob) Wojcik, and Laura (Joseph) David; grandchildren: Allison (Bob) Bonham, Megan (Chris) Cappello, Andrew (Samantha) Wojcik, Amanda (Michael) Smith, Joshua David, and Ashley (Liam) Michka; 10 great grandchildren; sister in law Betty Monyok and loving nephew Eric; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Ernest Staroscsak, sister Betty Vasilak and brother Joseph Monyok.
Visitation will be held at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Ave in Highland on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 3-7 pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 10am followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Grace Church at 10:30 am. Burial St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond.
Mary was born in Kosice, Czechoslovakia and raised in Hungary. She moved to the USA in 1949 and was fluent in Hungarian, Slovak, and English. She was part of the first graduating class from Hammond Morton High School in 1954 where she was the art editor of their first yearbook. Mary was a member of OLG and the Rosary Sodality for over 60 years. She belonged to the 1st Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Branch 289, along with the American Legion Post 369 Ladies Auxiliary.
