Mary Jane Lukas, age 92, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021. Mary Jane is survived by children Paul Lukas, Jim Lukas, Mary Beth Lukas, Linda (Maurice) Murunga, and Lisa Lukas; grandchildren Ruby Matheny; great-grandchildren Leona and Stella Matheny; brother Francis Jancosek. She is preceded in death by husband of 67 years, Arthur J. Lukas; parents John and Helena; siblings John Jancosek, Margaret Gabor, Helen Zabrecky, Ann Kaminsky, Paul Jancosek, Judy Kauchak, and Bernadette Burosh.
Mary Jane grew up in Whiting, Indiana where she helped run her parents’ grocery store. She was very active in high school where she was a cheerleader and involved in the drama club. She also loved to dance and enjoyed music. Before she was married, she worked for Lever Brothers in Hammond where she met her husband.
Mary Jane was an avid baker and passed on her skills to many of her children. She loved to laugh, play the card game Rummy, and was kind to everyone she met. Mary Jane was very giving and selfless, had a heart of gold, and always put God and her family first.
We will miss her baked goods, outgoing personality, and blunt honesty. Mary Jane was a devout Christian, and she will prevail in the hearts of those who accepted Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In Touch Ministries (www.InTouch.org), Discovering the Jewish Jesus (www.DiscoveringTheJewishJesus.org), and the Salvation Army.
