Phyllis June (Marshall)Andre, 92, of Dyer, Indiana passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Hope House, St. John, Indiana. She was married 67 years to her husband, Nicholas G. Andre, East Chicago, Indiana. They lived in Dyer until his death in 2016. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her daughter Christine N. (Andre) Privat and her husband Dennis L. Privat of Emporia, KS. She is survived by her children: daughter, Carolyn (Ray) Birk, Scott (Gerri), Joel(Mary), Dan, Nick (Donna) Andre, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was born in Osage City, Kansas, to parents William and Nina (Clarke) Marshall. She was the youngest of ten children: Lauren, Florence, Vivian, Vera, Hildred, Robert, Bruce who have all preceded her in death; and Bernice Spielman and Nina Carlson, still living.
Phyllis was quite adept with numbers and worked in accounting for Retail. She retired from Sears Roebuck after more than 25 years of service.
Phyllis was the first female Deacon in her church (Dyer United Methodist Church), where she has been a member for 70 years. She loved working in the office, Food Pantry, and wherever she could be of service.
Phyllis loved to travel visiting family as well as other tourist attractions around the US. She and Nick spent many winters in Englewood, Florida. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing boardgames and card games with anyone who would join her. Her highlights were times spent with the family whom she loved and treasured. She was a good cook and had quite a sweet tooth.
Phyllis was a kind woman who would do anything for those in need. She was a Believer and Follower of Christ who strived to be a witness of God’s love; who had a servant’s heart. She will be dearly missed!
A celebration of Phyllis’ Life will be at the Dyer United Methodist Church, 2016 Church St in Dyer on Monday, February 20, 2023, with visiting from 10 am until the time of service at 12:30 pm. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
