Ramon Oehmke Obituary

Ramon (Ray) A. Oehmke, age 83 of Crete, IL, formerly of Glenwood IL, passed away on February 16, 2025. He was born in Harvey, IL, on December 29, 1941.

He is survived by his three sons; Mark (Lisa), Michael (Stephanie), and Matthew. Three grandchildren; Katelyn, Nicholas, and Tyler. Two brothers; Kenneth “Ken” (Judy) and Robert “Bob” (Nancy). One sister; Jackie Zamal, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins; as well as his girlfriend Chris Hogan. He was preceded in death by his wife Katie M. Oehmke (nee Hobbs), his father; Kenneth Oehmke, his mother and father; Enid and Jim Kavis, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Woodrow and Julia Hobbs.

Ray was a graduate of Thornton Township High School. He was married for 53 years to Katie “Kay” M. Oehmke. He worked as a full-time truck driver for Anheuser-Busch and worked evenings at his friend’s liquor store (Tom’s Liquor). Known by many as Ray the Budman. When not working, he enjoyed time with family and friends. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing, drag racing, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Many memories were made in Hayward, Wisconsin on the Chippewa Flowage. Ramon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave. St. John, IN 46373, on Saturday, February 22, 2025 with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:30 p.m. The clergy is requesting attendees bring a letter of encouragement to the service to read. If you bring a letter and do not feel that you can read it, the clergy will read it for you.
