Robert (Bob) William Bevis, 91, lived in Highland for over 50 years and was a proud Purdue graduate. He retired from GATX as a railroad transportation engineer but was just as well-known for his knack for fixing and building anything and for rescuing second-hand treasures to bring them back to life.
His lawn and garden were always immaculate, a standard he passed down with quiet pride. He managed and was President of Highland Little League, sharing his patience and love of the game with his children. If candy was around, he’d find it, fill his cheeks like a chipmunk, and stuff his pockets till his pants slid down.
He affectionately called his wife “Ev” because she ran the show. He relied on her for everything and loved every minute of it. Together, they shared 65 years of love, laughter, and partnership.
A devout Catholic and an active-duty U.S. Army Sergeant, Bob lived his faith and service with sincerity, humility, and a dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; children Barb, Mark (Pam), Nancy, and Bob (Stephanie); grandchildren John, Emily (Greyson), Corey (Sarah), Brett, Bob Weishar, Bob Neal, and Blake; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anne Bevis.
