Robert Polk Obituary

On July 24th, after a long and difficult journey with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), we said goodbye to Robert Polk, peacefully at home with his family and the dog by his side.

If you knew Robert, chances are you have a story about him. He worked hard, lived life on his own terms, loved a good meal, loved to laugh, and was one of the most generous people you could meet.

For more than 30 years, he was the heart behind the Skyway Doghouse on Chicago's East Side, where he built much more than a successful business. He built friendships, took care of his employees and customers, and became part of the community he loved so much.

But nothing meant more to him than his family. Robert is survived by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Sandy; his mother, Evelyn, who is about to hit the big 1-0-0; his younger brother, Billy Polk; sisters Marilyn O'Malley and Sherri Boyle; his three children, Robert Polk (Marcy Polk), Jamele Polk (Sloan Charney), and daughter Bella Maas (Jason Maas); his six grandchildren (Alexandra Polk, Haley Polk, Jacob Maas, Morgan Maas, Riley Maas, Samantha Maas); and his two great-grandchildren (Harper Swinford & Liberty Young).

Robert leaves behind a lot of people who loved him, a lifetime of great stories, and memories that will keep us laughing for years to come.

We will miss him more than we can put into words, but we're grateful he was ours.

In lieu of flowers, please consider throwing a few bucks toward the fight against Progressive Supranuclear Palsy at https://www.psp.org/. He'd appreciate it.

We'll celebrate his life this Friday, July 31st from 5:30-8:30p.m. at The Lighthouse Restaurant in Cedar Lake, Indiana...one of Robert's favorite restaurants. Come raise a glass, share a story, and help us celebrate Robert the way he would have wanted with family, friends, laughter, and probably something fried.
