Ronald Edwin Hartwig

Ronald Edwin Hartwig passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Franciscan Hospital in Munster, IN, surrounded by many of his loving family: daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, goddaughter, and niece.

Ronald, born on May 1, 1945 in Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, IL, was the child of Edwin and Dorothy Hartwig. He attended St. David’s in Bridgeport and went to high school in Midlothian. Ron joined the Air Force after high school on the Buddy Plan.

In 1966 he married Bonnie Hoefferle. Together they shared 56 wonderful years. Ron had quite a few jobs in his younger years but eventually started in the car business where he thrived, first in sales and then as a finance manager in a few different dealerships. He retired from Gregg Motors in Joliet, his final destination.

Outside of work, Ron liked going to Bears games, working on his stocks, and traveling with family. Sometimes, they were spur of the moment travel plans.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his big smile, funny personality, being a hard worker, and how he took such good care of his family, who he always put first.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Hartwig, brother Greg Hartwig, brother-in-law Tim O’Donohue, and parents Edwin and Dorothy Hartwig.

He is survived by his daughters Christie (John) Juska, Kathy (Joe) Corrado, and Dana (Keith) Freund; 9 grandchildren: Amanda, Jessica, John, Cassandra, Jacob, Anthony, Bill, Madison, and Zach; 9 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held with military honors on July 21, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421.
