Rosemary Mlinarich Obituary

Rosemary A. (n. Pastirik) Mlinarich, 85, of Schererville, IN (formerly of Crete, IL) passed away on May 14, 2021 with her five daughters and sister by her side.  She was born on October 8, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Michael and Elizabeth (n. Durta) Pastirik and was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Stephen Mlinarich, Jr. and sister Lillian Bayer.

Rosemary was a businesswoman from the start.  After graduating Bowen High School, she attended business school where she was promptly hired by Standard Oil as an Administrative Assistant after graduation. That led to a career at IBM working in Chicago for several years until she settled in Crete with her husband to raise their family. That family grew to five daughters and a menagerie of animals.

She was passionate about many things, but nothing took more priority than Faith, Family, and her Slovak heritage.  She was a member of The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association where she was an officer of Chicago Jr. Branch 174 and President of Chicago Sr. Branch 258 for the past 40+ years.  Rosemary was elected to serve on the National Board of the FCSLA in 1995 where she was elected to Vice President, which she held for 16 years.

After a successful career in real estate with a large Chicago based real estate development company, Rosemary started her own real estate management company, RAM Management, Inc., where she built a multi-million-dollar portfolio managing commercial and residential real estate until her retirement in 2000.

Rosemary absolutely loved being with her family, friends, and meeting new people. She lived her life as a true Christian—with compassion, forgiveness, and kindness.  She is survived by five daughters, Karen Fitzpatrick (Mark Tyda); Barbara Schultz; Jeanette (Chris) Palanca; Catherine (Chris) Rahe; Lynda (Uwe) Schoberth; nine grandchildren: George Olsch Jr., Joshua Palanca, Austin Palanca, Quinn Palanca, Cameron Palanca, Ricky Schultz II, Madeline Rahe, Abby Rahe; Owen Schoberth; great grandchild, Haven Olsch; sister Violet (Donald) Nugent and her many nieces and nephews, which she loved deeply.

Memorial services will be held at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave. St. John, IN with visitation on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Celebration of Mass on May 20, 2021 at 10:00 am, St. John the Evangelist Day Chapel,  11301 W 93rd Ave in St. John, with burial to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond.
