Rosemary M. Szymkowski

Rosemary Szymkowski, age 94, of Schererville, IN peacefully joined our Heavenly Father on October 26, 2023. Born on April 10, 1929, in Chicago, IL to Chester and Stephanie Szczepkowski. She graduated Bowen High School and attended Roosevelt College and afterwards worked at Time Life Magazine until marrying Al Szymkowski on August 1, 1953.

Together Rosemary and Al raised four children in Riverdale, IL. Rosemary was a sweet, loving, nurturing wife and mother providing a wonderful home for her family. She was a skilled cook and baker and enjoyed hosting family events and holidays. Later she moved to a home in Dyer, IN where many more family memories were created. In recent years, Rosemary resided at Sheffield Manor and the Residences at Deer Creek enjoying bingo, card games, watching game shows and sports on television. The family is grateful for the extraordinary care received from the staff members during this time.

With strong faith, Rosemary prayed a daily Rosary filled with accumulated intentions. We celebrate as Rosemary enjoys the path to eternal life with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit in Heaven.

Preceded in death by Al, a caring spouse of 63 years. Survived by her loving sibling Sister Mary Monica Szczepkowski CSSF; children: Gloria Baumgartner (Robert), Donna Sablotny (Dean), Robert Szymkowski (Virginia), Thomas Szymkowski (Julia); grandchildren: Scott Baumgartner (Jolene), Brian Baumgartner, Ryan Sablotny (Lacey), Colin Sablotny (Whitney), Tyler Szymkowski (Nora), Courtney Szymkowski (fiancé Michael); great grandchildren: Savanah Reyes and Annabelle Baumgartner, Shepherd Sablotny, Madeline and Mason Sablotny, Edaline Szymkowski; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at 2PM at Fagen Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave, St John, IN 46373. Visitation will continue until 7PM. Thursday visitation will be at Fagen Miller Funeral Home from 9:00AM – 9:45AM followed by 10:30AM Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 440 Joliet Street, Dyer, IN. Burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
