Ryan Gerlach, 46, of Des Plaines, IL, formerly Crown Point, IN, passed away on January 1, 2024 surrounded by his family. Ryan is survived by his parents Bernie & Val “Susie” Gerlach; brother Eric Gerlach; sister Julie Hankins and brother-in-law Kenton Hankins; beloved nieces Zoey and Daisy Hankins; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ryan graduated from Lake Central High School (‘95) and Vincennes University (‘97). He went on to become a printer/pressman. He made many friends throughout his life who he considered just like family. From his childhood friends who called him “G-Pa”, to his music buddies, fish friends, and more. He was supported by so many wonderful people in his life.
Ryan’s greatest love in life was music. He learned to play guitar as a teen and even began to record and produce music with friends in the last few years. He enjoyed going to live concerts and festivals throughout his life. He was also actively involved in the saltwater fish tank community. He loved to play strategy games, try different beers and loved to cook. He enjoyed going on fishing trips to Minnesota, hiking trails and traveling to the Cayman Islands.
Despite the health challenges in his life, Ryan persevered through all of them. His motto was “Positive Mental Attitude” and to find joy in every day, laugh with friends, and listen to music that lights you up inside. He was an inspiration to everyone.
Ryan appreciated all those who sent positive vibes and thoughts his way, prayed for him and sent well wishes throughout his life.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Ave. in Saint John, Indiana. At Ryan’s request, his family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at a later date.
