On Sunday, July 18, 2021, Steven Richard Pointer passed away at the age of 51. Steve was born October 10, 1969 in Lebanon, IN but spent most of his life growing up in Avon, IN. He married and had two daughters, Breanna and Alyssa Pointer.
He had a passion for hockey, golf, the Indianapolis Colts and Nascar of which was evident amongst those whom knew him. He worked at Pan-Am Plaza in Indianapolis, and played golf and worked at several courses around central Indiana. He continued his hockey passion after remarrying and relocating to Evanston, IL by working at Centennial Ice Rink as an Assistant Rink Manager and Coach / Instructor for Wilmette Hockey Association. He found great joy in helping young players develop into competitive, determined hockey players. He loved to attend Nascar races and was proud to say he attended 6 Daytona 500s, of which the last one he was able to walk around the track.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Haller, two daughters, Breanna and Alyssa, his puggle, Martin, his mother, Shirley Pointer, his in-laws, Ross and Ruth Haller, his three sisters, Kim Delarosa, Shannon (Bill) Hall, Kelly Pointer, 9 nieces and nephews and 4 great nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Paul Pointer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 8 from 1:00 pm-3:00pm at Westmoreland Country Club, 2525 Old Glenview Road, Wilmette, IL.
A Celebration of Life service in Indianapolis will be held at a future date.
Donations can be made through a GoFundMe page set up through the Wilmette Hockey Association, or by donating to a memorial of your choice in Steve’s name. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the extraordinary care that was provided to Steve.
