Thomas A. Jacobs, age 81, of Dyer, IN, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He is survived by his dear wife of 9 years, Cindy; three sons: Daniel (Donna) Jacobs of Dyer, Darin (Nancy) Jacobs of Crown Point, and Michael (Jane) Jacobs of Sun Prairie, WI; stepsons Mark (Therese) Colao and Dino (Susan) Colao; twelve grandchildren: Alaina, Amanda, Brandon, Brian, Brianna, Genevieve, Gianna, Joseph, Marissa, Matthew, Natalie, and Nicholas; one sister, Bonnie (Carl) Jantzen. Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elaine; parents Clifford and Margaret Jacobs; brother Jim (Sandy) Jacobs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 9:15 a.m. at the Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 8580 Wicker Avenue (Rt. 41), St. John, IN with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church, Dyer with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Jacobs retired from Prudential Insurance and worked as a salesman all of his adult life. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church in Dyer; he served 25+ years as an usher at his former parish, St. Joseph's in Dyer. For over 30 years, Mr. Jacobs coached youth track, baseball, and basketball (including founding St. John Township biddy ball). He was formerly a member of the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club (president), Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, National Rifle Association, and an avid bowler. He served on the Dyer Town Council for 12 years (several as town board president), also on the Dyer Plan Commission, Dyer police Commission, Dyer Economic Development Commission, and on the Board for St. Joseph School. He served six years in the Indiana Army National Guard. He worked as the principal developer of Castlewood subdivision and utilized Meyer's Castle for multiple charitable events. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. He was a devoted and happy husband and family man. He was immensely proud of his kids and grandchildren, whose activities he attended often. He was a self-taught organ player. We will miss him playing music for us, and will especially miss his great sense of humor.
